A new internet cable cut occurred between Sweden and Finland.

A new internet cable break occurred overnight between Sweden and Finland, Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Radio’s Ekot news service reported on Tuesday, citing sources.

“According to the Ekot company, there was a cable break on the Internet line between Sweden and Finland,” the material says.

The cable break was discovered at night and most likely occurred on land in Finland, Sveriges Radio clarifies.

Police suspect the cable rupture was the result of criminal activity and authorities have been informed.

Finnish operator Cinia Oy reported on November 18 that the submarine telecommunications cable C-Lion1 between Finland and Germany was damaged and the cable was disabled. Lithuanian and Swedish media later reported that the undersea communications cable between Sweden and Lithuania was also damaged, and Swedish authorities are investigating.

The Finnish Central Criminal Police is investigating the C-Lion1 cable break as causing damage and interference with communications. The Swedish prosecutor’s office began a preliminary investigation into the damage, classifying it as sabotage. Both cables have been repaired and put back into service.
