Armenia has declared its readiness to cooperate with the ICC.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, during a meeting in The Hague with the Chairman of the International Criminal Court, Tomoko Akane, announced Yerevan’s readiness to cooperate in strengthening international legal norms, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.

It is noted that during the meeting the interlocutors exchanged views on issues of cooperation between the ICC and Armenia since Yerevan joined the court in February this year.

“Mirzoyan emphasized Armenia’s readiness to participate in international cooperation efforts aimed at complying with international legal norms and ensuring the rule of law,” the statement said.

According to the press service, the parties reviewed the challenges facing the international justice system, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the role of independent judicial mechanisms to properly respond to global crises, as well as to help ensure peace.

“Mirzoyan noted the importance of joint efforts to overcome these challenges. The meeting also discussed the progress of work to improve national legislation in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute in order to regulate the procedural aspects of cooperation with the court,” the press service said.

Armenia officially became a member of the International Criminal Court on February 1, 2024 after ratifying the Rome Statute in early October 2023.
