Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, against the backdrop of events in Syria, said that Ankara expects that the Astana process will be revived in the near future.

“We expect that our Astana process will be revived again in the near future. We discussed this with my Iranian and Russian colleagues,” Fidan said at a press conference by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on Monday in Ankara.

The terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, together with a number of armed formations that are part of the so-called armed Syrian opposition, launched a large-scale operation on November 29, moving from the north of Idlib towards the cities of Aleppo and Hama. A day later, on November 30, the second largest city in Syria and its surroundings, including the international airport and the Kuweiris military airfield, came under the control of terrorists.

After the capture of Aleppo, terrorist groups attempted to advance towards the city of Hama, capturing the village of Maaret Nuuman. In the north of Aleppo province, attempts are being made to advance deeper into the territories controlled by Kurdish forces in the area of the Tel Rifaat settlement.

The command of the Syrian army, in turn, announced on December 1 that the advance of terrorists in Hama had been stopped and government troops launched a counter-offensive, liberating a number of settlements previously captured by terrorists.
