Iran has banned electronic communications equipment on planes.

Carrying any electronic means of communication on board an aircraft, with the exception of mobile phones, has become prohibited,  Jafar Yazerlu, an official representative of the country’s Civil Aviation Organization said.

Yazerlu’s statement came amid escalating tensions in the Middle East region following Iran’s missile attack on Israel in early October and after the massive bombing of pagers in Lebanon in mid-September.

“Carrying any electronic means of communication on board an airplane, except mobile phones, both in hand luggage and checked luggage, is prohibited,” Yazerlu said.

According to an official representative of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, passengers should refrain from bringing electronic communication devices such as pagers, walkie-talkies and the like on board the aircraft in order to ensure flight safety.

In different areas of Lebanon on September 17 and 18, communications equipment, including pagers and walkie-talkies, were detonated. According to official data, 37 people were killed and more than 3 thousand were injured. Hezbollah and the Lebanese authorities blamed Israel for the incident. Israeli authorities have not yet confirmed or denied their involvement.
