The Polish Foreign Ministry warned Duda against visiting Zeman’s anniversary.

The Polish Foreign Ministry warned Duda against visiting Zeman’s anniversary.

The Polish Foreign Ministry did not advise President Andrzej Duda to attend the anniversary of ex-Czech President Milos Zeman because of the possible presence of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder there, Foreign Minister of the Republic Radoslaw Sikorski said on Polish Radio.

Duda recently visited Prague, where he took part in the celebration of Zeman’s 80th birthday along with the presidents of Serbia and Slovakia, as well as the Hungarian and Slovak prime ministers. After this, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the foreign ministry did not advise Duda to attend Zeman’s anniversary together with Orban, who were repeatedly accused of a “pro-Russian” position, and advised the head of state to “a different choice of friends.” Sikorsky also expressed confidence that Duda already regrets his visit.

“There was a danger there, we had information that perhaps Gerhard Schröder, a well-known lobbyist for Gazprom, would be present there. Therefore, we warned the president,” Sikorsky said.
