Musk explained the move of X’s headquarters from California.

American entrepreneur Elon Musk on his page explained the move of the headquarters of his company X from California to Texas by the desire of California authorities to ban freedom of speech.

Company X’s headquarters left San Francisco on Friday, September 13, moving to Texas due to owner Elon Musk’s disagreement with local government policies. Musk announced his intention to close the San Francisco headquarters and move the headquarters to Austin, Texas, in July. He cited the California governor’s adoption of a law regarding the authority of educational institutions in matters of children’s gender self-determination as the reason for the decision, and said that such a policy would prompt many families to leave the state.

“It’s hard to be a platform for free speech in a state that wants to ban free speech,” Musk wrote on his social media page X.

The social network Twitter, renamed X by Musk after its acquisition in 2022, was founded in San Francisco in 2006. In 2012, the company moved to a massive art deco building in the central part of the city, where at various times it rented an area of 43 to 65 thousand square meters. In July, local media reported that the company was looking for a subtenant for part of its premises.
