Scholz supported the introduction of controls at all German borders.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz advocated the introduction of controls at all land borders of the country.

“Illegal migration is not what we want,” he said during a conversation with citizens in the city of Prenzlau (Brandenburg) in eastern Germany. If 300,000 people arrive in Germany, as in 2023, and only some of them receive the right to protection, “then this is not good,” he said.

For this reason, Scholz emphasized, it is necessary to pay more attention to those who have the right to enter the country.

“Unfortunately, we cannot fully rely on all our neighbors to act appropriately,” he said.

The Chancellor assured that border controls will be carried out in accordance with European legislation.

On September 9, German Interior Minister Nancy Feser ordered the introduction of temporary controls at all land borders in order to reduce illegal migration, as the country “cannot cope with the reception of migrants.” It will take effect from September 16 and will initially last six months. The reasons for such a step also include the need to ensure internal security in light of the threats posed by radical Islamism and cross-border crime. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Monde, said that Warsaw plans to bring for discussion by the European Commission Berlin’s introduction of temporary controls at all German land borders to reduce illegal migration
