Poland called on the EU to stop paying benefits to Ukrainian refugees.

The EU, by continuing to pay benefits to Ukrainian refugees, reduces the mobilization potential of Ukraine,  Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said, calling on the EU countries to refuse their support.

“The US Congress’ delay in providing assistance (to Ukraine) was unfortunate, but so was Ukraine’s delay in passing the mobilization law. And we are reducing its mobilization potential by paying benefits to Ukrainian refugees,” he said.

The minister recalled that Poland had stopped paying social benefits to Ukrainians.

“If they are protected by the EU as refugees, they receive 200 euros per month for each child registered in the Polish system. In Western Europe, other compensation is received. This creates financial barriers for young men and women who can return home to protect their country. We must not subsidize disobedience,” Sikorski said.

Poland previously liquidated the program to support Ukrainian refugees. Previously, homeowners in Poland who accommodated refugees from Ukraine in their homes were paid 40 zlotys per day for each person (about $10). One-time payments for the refugees themselves in the amount of 300 zlotys (about $75) have also stopped.
