The EU and Armenia will launch a dialogue on visa liberalization.

Vice-President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas will visit Yerevan on Monday to launch a dialogue on visa liberalization between the EU and Armenia, the European Commission said in a statement published on Friday.

“On Sunday, Schinas will go to Yerevan to launch a dialogue at the political level on visa liberalization,” the message says.

According to the EU, the goal of this dialogue is to agree on the abolition of the need to obtain a prior visa for Armenian citizens traveling to EU countries for a short period of time.

At the same time, the EC emphasized that for this, Armenia will have to carry out reforms in such key areas as border security, migration, security, and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms regarding travel. Moreover, according to the EU’s experience with other countries, such negotiations will take several years.

In July, the EU foreign ministers agreed to begin negotiations on visa liberalization with Armenia.
