Trump’s threats to withdraw the United States from NATO are unrealistic.

The former US President’s threats to withdraw the country from NATO if re-elected are unrealistic and are intended only to sow fear and uncertainty among allies,  Thom Tillis, co-chairman of the NATO Observer Group in the US Senate said.

“This threat is not real. It is being used as a political tool to create fear, uncertainty and doubt,” the Republican senator said, speaking at a NATO summit in Washington.

Tillis expressed confidence that Congress will never support the US withdrawal from NATO.

Last December, US President Joe Biden signed a defense policy order that included a clause preventing the White House from unilaterally ending the country’s membership in NATO without congressional approval.
