WHO has recognized Egypt as a malaria-free country. WHO has certified Egypt as a malaria-free country, marking a historic milestone in the fight against the disease, the organization said in a press release. “The World Health Organization (WHO) has certified Egypt as malaria-free, a significant public health achievement for a country of more than 100 million people,” the organization said in a statement on its website. The WHO added that the achievement was the result of “nearly 100 years of efforts by the Egyptian government and people” to prevent the disease, which has been prevalent in the country since ancient times. WHO grants malaria-free status to a country if it provides detailed and reliable evidence that the chain of transmission of malaria-carrying mosquitoes has been interrupted throughout its entire territory for at least the last three years. Malaria is an infection transmitted through a mosquito bite. WHO previously reported that despite progress, the African region continues to be hit hardest by the deadly disease.

Thailand will consider a call to dismiss the prime minister on July, 24.

Thailand will consider a call to dismiss the prime minister on July, 24.

The Constitutional Court (CC) of Thailand has scheduled a new hearing for July 24 into the case of alleged violation of the code of ethics by Prime Minister Settha Thaweesin in the appointment of Phichit Chungban as a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office. This was reported by the press service of the court.

“The Constitutional Court concluded and ruled that in the interests of the participants in the process, it seeks additional information and awaits clarification from the body or person previously summoned to court. The next hearing is scheduled for July 24, 2024,” the statement said.

On May 23, the Constitutional Court of Thailand accepted a petition from a group of 40 senators demanding the resignation of the head of government. The senators in their petition expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of former lawyer Chungbang to a government position due to his past.

In June 2008, a court sentenced him to six months in prison for attempting to bribe judges while representing former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a corruption case. The Thai Bar Council then suspended his law license for five years.

Thaweesin said he sought advice from the Council of State on Chungban’s appointment before submitting the new cabinet to the king for approval. Chinban resigned on May 21 so that, in his words, “the prime minister could continue to govern the country.”
