The US State Department has approved the sale of missiles to Taiwan.

The US State Department has approved a possible $60 million sale of missiles to Taiwan, the Pentagon’s Defense Cooperation Agency reports.

“The State Department has approved the potential sale of Switchblade-300 systems and related equipment to the Office of the Taipei Cultural and Economic Representative for approximately $60.2 million,” the statement said.

The Taipei representative office has requested 720 missiles and 101 control systems, the agency said.

The State Department also approved the possible sale of ALTIUS 600M-V drones to Taiwan for another $300 million, the Pentagon said.

The defense department indicates that Taipei has requested up to 291 units of these UAVs.

Beijing considers Taiwan an integral part of the PRC, and adherence to the “one China” principle is a prerequisite for other states wishing to establish or maintain diplomatic relations with the PRC. The “one China” principle and non-recognition of Taiwan’s independence are also observed by the United States, despite the fact that they maintain close contacts with Taipei in various fields and supply the island with weapons.
