The United States, Japan and South Korea have agreed to hold the first trilateral new military exercises called Freedom Edge this summer, according to a joint statement following a meeting of the heads of defense departments of the three countries in Singapore.

“The Secretary of State and Secretaries have decided to conduct the first iteration of a new multi-domain trilateral exercise, Freedom Edge, this summer. They have confirmed that trilateral exercises will be conducted on a systematic basis in accordance with the multi-year trilateral exercise plan,” the statement said, the text of which was released by the Pentagon.


According to the Yonhap agency, the exercise will take place in various domains, including air, sea, underwater and cyberspace.
