In Australia, thousands of people rallied and marched in support of Palestine.

Numerous demonstrations in support of Palestine took place in Australia’s major seaports. At the Sydney cargo port, protesters held a march and rally calling for an end to the war in Gaza.

During the demonstration, which, according to the organizers, brought together about 2.5 thousand people, representatives of public groups, student and trade union organizations called for “an end to the genocide in Gaza”, demanded peace and freedom for Palestine, and also asked the Australian government to impose an embargo on arms supplies and trade sanctions against the State of Israel.

“How many civilian casualties will it take for the Australian government to take action? The International Criminal Court is seeking the arrest of the Israeli Prime Minister for war crimes, and our government still wants to sell him weapons? If our government doesn’t take action, we will.” , – a representative of the Australian Port Workers Union said from the podium of the rally, adding that “the Australian working class will stand with the people of Palestine.”

The public group Palestine Action Group (PAG), which organized the event, indicated that the May 25 event would be “the beginning of a large-scale campaign against the Jewish state, designed to stop all trade with Israel through Australian ports.”

“We call on the Australian government to sever all ties to the apartheid regime and impose sanctions against those responsible for the deaths of civilians in Gaza, which is a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law,” PAG said.

The Palestine Action Group also reported that similar protests took place on Saturday at the seaports of all major Australian cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth and Hobart.
