The United States and Argentina intend to intensify cooperation in energy and mining.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Argentine Foreign Minister Diana Mondino agreed at a meeting in Washington on steps aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy, natural resources and trade. This is stated in a written statement by the head of the press service of the US State Department, Matthew Miller.

According to him, the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries “discussed how the United States and Argentina can increase cooperation to build a safer and more democratic hemisphere.”

“Advancing our cooperation in the energy and critical minerals sectors, Secretary Blinken and Foreign Secretary Mondino reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue on energy security,” the statement said.

To further develop our partnership, Secretary Blinken and Foreign Secretary Mondino have signed a framework agreement of understanding to renew high-level bilateral dialogue,” Miller added. “This framework agreement will advance cooperation in key areas including trade, economic growth and environmental stability“.

The statement clarified that Blinken “commended Argentina’s leadership, including its commitment to Ukraine and its defense of human rights in the Western Hemisphere.”

As the Washington administration announced on Friday, US National Security Assistant Jake Sullivan discussed increasing bilateral military cooperation at a meeting with Mondino and Argentine Prime Minister Nicolas Posse.
