The sea flooded areas in a number of Turkish cities after powerful hurricanes and downpours; in Izmir, rescuers came to the aid of cafe visitors.

The penultimate “orange” threat level was announced by Turkish authorities for Sunday in 44 of 81 provinces, and the “yellow” level was declared in another 20 provinces due to adverse weather conditions.

Due to the hurricane in Izmir in western Turkey, the sea overflowed its banks and flooded several areas, including central Alsancak and Kordon, and ferry flights were canceled. Videos of flooded city streets are being published on social networks, electric scooters remain under water, and cars are half flooded.

According to the IHA agency, on Sunday night, rescuers in a rubber boat came to the aid of cafe patrons in Alsancak who were blocked due to flooding.

In the Mavişehir district of Izmir, citizens were alerted to the threat of flooding by sirens, and some even tried to remove cars from underground parking lots.

In Istanbul, the temperature dropped by 10 degrees to +8, and it is raining in some areas. Due to the hurricane, 15% of flights on Sunday were canceled at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport, and cancellations and delays are expected at other airports.

In the Kyagythane region, a powerful wind blew off the roof of a residential building, several cars were damaged, but no people were injured.


In Dalaman, in the resort province of Mugla, eyewitnesses observed a tornado, after which car windows were broken, roofs of houses and garbage containers were flying in the air.

The disaster did not spare the resort of Antalya: in many areas of the resort, trees were uprooted, cars and shops were damaged, and canals overflowed their banks in the Kepez area. At least two boats sank in Manavgat, and yachts were also sunk near the center of Antalya.
