Japan warned against changes to the status quo in Taiwan.

During his visit to Taiwan, the head of the political council of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Koichi Hagiuda, warned against attempts to change the status quo and quoted the words of the late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“An emergency situation in Taiwan is an emergency situation for Japan and an emergency situation for the US-Japan alliance. Unilateral change by force of the status quo is unacceptable. It is necessary to restrain actions that lead to increased tension,” the politician said.

In August, his party colleague, LDP Deputy Chairman and former Prime Minister Taro Aso, spoke of the need to “be prepared for a fight” in connection with the situation around Taiwan.
