Apple and Chinese authorities discussed the rules for operating applications in China.

Employees of the American company Apple met with Chinese officials to discuss concerns about new rules that will limit the supply of foreign applications in China, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources.

According to the publication, operators of such applications must now obtain registration from the Chinese authorities.

“Officials told Apple it must strictly enforce rules banning unregistered foreign apps,” the newspaper said.

The companies also pointed out that the new rules are needed to combat fraud and pornography, as well as control the spread of information.

The Chinese segment of the Internet has a large-scale system of government censorship, often called the “great firewall.” Today, Google, YouTube, WhatsApp, social networks Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Clubhouse, Twitch, as well as the websites of a number of the world’s leading media are blocked in China.
