McCarthy wants to withdraw funds for the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the US budget.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy intends to withdraw $300 million from the US defense budget earmarked for training the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Punchbowl News reports citing him.

“Makkari says that he will remove $300 million earmarked for training Ukrainian soldiers from the Pentagon budget,” writes the publication on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

According to the speaker, he will hold a vote on this issue and expects it to be supported by a majority in the chamber.

The inclusion of funds intended for Ukraine in the country’s defense budget causes sharp opposition from a number of members of the House of Representatives of Congress and becomes a stumbling block for its adoption. Thus, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said earlier this week that she would vote against passing a short-term or full-fledged budget as long as it included appropriations for Ukraine. Congress, in order to avoid another shutdown, must adopt a full or short-term budget for the country before the end of the current fiscal year, which expires on October 1.
