A jury in the US state of Georgia proposed to indict Senator Lindsey Graham and former national security adviser Michael Flynn as accomplices in former US President Donald Trump’s attempts to change the results of the 2020 election in his favor, but they were not included in the final list, according to court materials.
⠀
Charges in Georgia were brought against Trump himself, who allegedly called local officials demanding to find missing votes, and 18 representatives of his entourage, including former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
⠀
The full grand jury report, released Friday, shows that jurors recommended that Fulton County prosecutors seek charges against nearly 40 people. The list includes, in particular, Republican Graham, who represents the state of South Carolina in the Senate, and Flynn, who in 2017 worked for three weeks as an adviser to Trump and resigned due to contacts with the then Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak.
⠀
It was also proposed to bring charges against all participants in the self-styled electoral colleges, which were allegedly formed in seven states, including Georgia, with the aim of ensuring Trump’s re-election or casting doubt on the victory of his Democratic rival Joe Biden.
⠀
Presidential elections in the United States are held in two stages: based on the results of the popular vote, electoral colleges are formed in each state, which name the winner of the race and send their decision to the federal legislature for approval.
Trump has not admitted his guilt.
