Libyan Attorney General Siddique al-Sour is demanding that the Lebanese authorities release Hannibal Gaddafi, Sherbel Milad al-Khoury, a lawyer for the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said.

In early July, it was reported that Hannibal Gaddafi, who is in the prison of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, was hospitalized in critical condition due to his hunger strike. Earlier, Gaddafi’s son began a hunger strike to protest his detention in Lebanon without charge since 2015.

“Libyan Attorney General Siddique al-Sour sent a letter on July 30, the subject of which is a request for international cooperation, he requires the Lebanese judicial authorities to report the reasons for the detention of Gaddafi, given that he has been in custody in Lebanon since 2015,” said al -Khuri.

According to the lawyer, al-Sour, expressing readiness to cooperate in the investigation into the disappearance of the Lebanese Imam Musa al-Sadr in Libya in 1978, demanded that Hannibal Gaddafi be released and handed over to Libya, or allowed to leave for the country of asylum.

According to media reports, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was detained by Lebanese law enforcement in December 2015 in connection with the disappearance of the Lebanese imam and politician Musa al-Sadr, who disappeared during a visit to the Libyan capital in 1978. Hannibal Gaddafi himself later stated that he was kidnapped from Syria and illegally transported to Lebanon.
