There was an explosion on a platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

A strong fire started on the offshore platform of the Mexican oil and gas corporation Pemex on the Campeche shelf in the Gulf of Mexico, five people were injured, and evacuation is underway.

“Workers from the Nohoch Alfa platform reported an explosion and fire at the facilities of the Cantarell production complex of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) on the Campeche shelf. Interlocutors assure that the flames are visible from nearby platforms, the incident is considered serious,” the report says.

According to media reports, five people out of 180 employees of the platform were injured in the explosion. Support vessels evacuate them to the Akal Golfo platform. The published footage, taken from a nearby platform, shows the work of the fire fleet.

Pemex has not yet provided official information about the incident.
