French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting of an interdepartmental crisis group in connection with the unrest that swept the country after the death of a teenager at the hands of police, BFMTV reports with reference to the Elysee Palace.

According to the channel, the meeting is scheduled for 13:00. To be in time for the meeting, Macron will have to interrupt his visit to Brussels, where he arrived the day before to attend the EU summit.

On Tuesday, June 27, police officers shot and killed a 17-year-old teenager during a check on a road in the city of Nanterre, who, according to law enforcement officers, refused to comply with their demands.

As a result, riots broke out in a number of French cities: young people set fire to cars, police stations and administrative buildings.

More than 660 people were reportedly detained in France as a result of overnight protests.
