Four people have died because of the protests in Pakistan

Four people were killed and 27 injured during protests in the Pakistani city of Peshawar, which began in connection with the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“Four bodies riddled with bullets were taken to emergency departments while 27 others were treated for injuries,” a spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital told.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was detained on Tuesday by the National Bureau of Reporting (Economic Intelligence) in the Al-Qadir case. According to investigators, Khan, along with his wife and leaders of his party, founded a trust to create “Al-Qadeer University” and by their actions caused damage to the treasury of Pakistan in the amount of 50 billion rupees (about $175 million). On Wednesday, a court in Islamabad arrested ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan for 8 days in the case of the Al-Qadeer Foundation, and also charged him in the case of selling gifts from foreign heads of state.

Shortly after Khan’s arrest, his party called for mass rallies across the country. During the protests, Pakistani police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters. Agence France Presse reported that nearly 1,000 people were detained in Pakistan’s Punjab province after protests broke out against Khan’s arrest, and 130 police officers and officials were injured.
