U.S. Food Prices Expected to Rise Due to White House Anti-Russian Sanctions

The US authorities said that a shortage of food products is not expected, but a rise in prices is quite likely. The anti-Russian sanctions of the White House because of the situation around Ukraine were to blame, Cecilia Rose, head of the White House economic advisers group, said.

“We don’t expect shortages here because we are a net exporter. However, we are aware that there are regions in the world that are heavily dependent on wheat exports from certain countries,” says Rose.

Rose says authorities are already seeing “some impact” of the sanctions on fuel prices in the US, which has stopped buying oil and petroleum products from Russia. “We may also see some effect on food through higher fertilizer and energy prices,” comments Rose.
