About 500 people from Honduras lined up to show their documents to the first line of unarmed security personnel at the Agua Caliente border crossing Tuesday night.
While hundreds of Honduran migrants cross Guatemala border as caravan heads for the US, riot police formed a second line to contain any possible disturbance. The refugees confess they had to travel to the US out of necessity, because of the poverty and for a better life for their children.
People have nothing to lose, so they are forming a caravan and heading to the prosperous United States. Despite hard-line rhetoric from the White House on immigration, many people still seek to enter the US illegally.
‘A big new Caravan is heading up to our Southern Border from Honduras. Tell Nancy and Chuck that a drone flying around will not stop them. Only a Wall will work,’ Trump tweeted Tuesday, referring to Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer.
The wall issue is still problematic for the US Congress, under the current shutdown, the situation on the border becomes more unpredictable, say the experts. In November, about 6,000 people from Central America reach Tijuana. The appearance of such a huge number of refugees caused the protests in the border city, there were conflicts between the US and Mexico over their presence in the city.
This week, fewer than 700 migrants were still in a former concert venue in the city which had been set up as a shelter.
