Nobukazu Kuriki’s eighth attempt became fatal, Japanese climber died. BBC reported that there are no further details about the circumstances of his death due to poor communication links.
The tourism official Gyanendra Shrestha told Reuters on Monday that 36-year-old Everest climber was found dead in his tent at Camp Two overnight and is one of two climbers to die on Everest over the weekend. A climber from Macedonia, Georgi Petkov, was also found dead higher on the highest mountain.
Nobukazu Kuriki suffered severe frostbite during an ascent in 2012 and lost nine digits but no determination to reach the summit. to realize his dream, he returned to the mountain again in 2015. The Japanese Everest conqueror had been documenting his most recent journey with video updates on Facebook; a message on Sunday read:
“I feel the pain and difficulty of this mountain.”
Since then, there was no news from Kuriki whose seven previous failed attempts to reach the 8,848-metre peak haven’t crowned by success. He was steadily returning to the mountain again, determined to conquer the snow peak one day.
The company which organised Kuriki’s expedition said arrangements were being made for his body to be returned to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu.
So far, the most famous Everest climber is 48-year-old Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpa whose recent record of 21 successful ascents is jointly held by Kami Rita and two other Nepali climbers. Kami Rita’s first climbed Everest in 1994 and completed the most recent ascent last May.
