Anoher tragedy marked the bullfighting event in France on Saturday: matador has died after being gored during a festival in south-west France. As French media reports, Mr Fandino suffered a lung injury and died on his way to the hospital from a heart attack.
Bullfight as a bloody tradition divides the community
Ivan was an experienced bullfighter, the matador gave a brilliant performance in a competition earlier in the day before he died. It is the second matador fatality on the corrida, the first was in 1921, that time Isidoro Mari Fernando died in the arena in Béziers.
Saturday’s fatal injuries wasn’t the only one for Fandino, the Basque-born matador had been injured in 2015 in Spanish Pamplona, and in 2013 in French Bayonne. His perfect health conditions allowed the 36-year-old man to recover as soon as possible, but not this time.
The community was divided by that blood-soaked pageant, while the opponent call barbaric, fans say the tradition is an ancient art form deeply rooted in national history. In France, the bullfighting was declared legal in 2012.
