This version of the landmark Japanese anime film was criticised as none of a previous live-action movie. The Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA) condemned the producers of the whitewashing. In other words, Scarlett Johansson is too white to play the role od Japanese fembot.

Scarlett Johansson didn’t agree with critics
Ms Johansson didn’t agree with the critics’ point of view regarding the whitewashing. The Hollywood A-lister noted in ABC’s Good Morning America:
“I think this character is living a very unique experience, in that she is a human brain in an entirely machinate body. She’s essentially identity-less. … I would never attempt to play a person of a different race, obviously.”
According to the actress, any question will be answered by the viewers when they see the ‘The Ghost in the shell’, indeed.
