19 political parties have registered in Lithuania to participate in the Seimas (parliament) elections in October. The chairman of the election commission, Lina Petronienė, told.

“The registration of participants in the political campaign for the parliamentary elections has been completed. 19 political parties have registered with the commission,” she said.

According to the Ministry of Justice, there are 27 political parties in Lithuania. Of these, three are in the process of completing their activities. The parties registered about 170 candidates for deputies. Another 12 people registered independently.

In the previous parliamentary elections four years ago, 1,795 people ran for the 141st seat in the Seimas. 30 self-nominated candidates were registered. The Sejm is elected by universal secret ballot using a mixed system: 71 deputies in single-member constituencies using a majoritarian system, 70 in multi-member constituencies using party lists. The term of office is four years.
