Warsaw is preparing water supplies and power generators in shelters, the mayor of the Polish capital, Rafal Trzaskowski, told reporters.

“As part of the Warsaw Defends program, we are checking critical infrastructure; yesterday all city services held training exercises at the water supply plant so that we are ready. We are preparing water supplies, preparing warehouses in order to store additional equipment, for example, generators. We must be prepared for any kind of situation,” Trzaskowski said.

According to him, about three million people can be accommodated in various premises adapted for shelters in Warsaw, with a population of the capital of about 1.8 million.

“According to the audit results, we are able to accommodate about three million people in the subway, underground parking lots, and in various buildings of this type. At the same time, we will need to do a piece of work in order to be ready for any eventuality,”  Trzaskowski said.
