US President Donald Trump will announce the creation of a US strategic bitcoin reserve during a cryptocurrency summit at the White House on March 7, the country’s Commerce Minister Howard Latnik said.
⠀
Earlier, the White House announced that Trump would hold and deliver a speech at the first-ever cryptocurrency summit, which will be held on March 7.
⠀
“The president definitely thinks that (the United States) should have a strategic reserve of bitcoin. Now the question arises – how should we handle other cryptocurrencies? I think that the model will be announced on Friday, when we do it,” Latnik said.
⠀
According to the minister, bitcoin may receive a priority status in the new reserve.
⠀
Earlier on March 2, Trump announced a decree on the creation of a strategic reserve of US cryptocurrencies – the new reserve will include cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano (ADA), Solana (SOL), Ripple (XRP). Trump promised to become the “first crypto president” of the United States, and in his decree signed in his first week in office, he stressed that his administration supports responsible growth and use of digital assets in all sectors of the economy.
⠀
Trump has repeatedly expressed support for digital currencies. Even before his victory in the presidential election in November 2024, the Republican promised to turn the United States into the “world capital” of cryptocurrencies. In July, he announced his intention to create a national strategic bitcoin reserve in the event of an election victory, and also became the first former president in the history of the United States to pay with bitcoins during one of his election events.
