American Senator Elizabeth Warren demanded that an investigation be launched against SpaceX after its founder Elon Musk admitted that he had limited the operation of Starlink in the Black Sea region for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
⠀
“Congress must investigate what happened and determine whether we have adequate tools to ensure that foreign policy is driven by the government, not just one billionaire,” Warren said.
⠀
She added that she expects the Department of Defense to reconsider the contract with SpaceX.
⠀
Last week, CNN quoted an excerpt from a biography of Musk written by Walter Isaacson. In particular, it says that last year the businessman secretly ordered his engineers to disable Starlink in the Black Sea region in order to “thwart a covert Ukrainian attack on the Russian navy.” The entrepreneur himself clarified that he received an emergency request from the government to activate the service, but refused to do so, since otherwise his company would be involved “in a major act of war.”
⠀
After this confession, Musk received criticism from users of his social network X. Among other things, he was accused of treason. To this Musk replied that the US Congress did not declare war on Russia. And those who accuse him of treason should be considered traitors themselves, he added.

Moreover, even earlier, the entrepreneur emphasized that he would not allow his satellites to be used to escalate the conflict, which could lead to World War III.
