The United States is preparing to transfer the first purchased F-35 fighter jets to Poland in a few days, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladislaw Kosiniak-Kamysh told reporters.

“I’m glad that tomorrow I’m heading to Washington. A little earlier, Deputy Ministers (Cesari) Tomczyk and (Pavel) Beida will participate in the transfer of the first F-35s,” Kosiniak-Kamysh said.

He added that he was heading to Washington at the invitation of the head of the Pentagon.

“A very important visit. The meeting with Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon will concern security guarantees, cooperation, procurement that we are conducting, the speed of technology transfer to Poland, coordination of actions,” the minister noted.

In March 2019, the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense signed a plan for the technical modernization of the country’s armed forces until 2026. It provides for the acquisition of 32 fifth-generation F-35 aircraft by 2026.
