The Sudanese National Army has seized the initiative in the war in the country from the Rapid Reaction Force, Sudanese diplomat Mohammed Sirraj said.

“If you look at the whole picture of the war, at the beginning the National Army was in a defensive situation because they were attacked by militias. Now the situation is the opposite: the National Army is acting offensively, not defensively. They have a clear plan to eradicate the RRF forces,” – the diplomat said.

He stressed that the Sudan National Army is taking control and attacking RRF forces throughout the country today.

Since April 15, 2023, heavy fighting has been taking place in Sudan between the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) under the command of Mohammed Hamdan Daglo and the regular army. The parties are exchanging contradictory statements regarding successes in combat operations and control over facilities, launching a large-scale information war in the media and social networks. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has said ongoing fighting in the country could lead to disease outbreaks and a fatal collapse of the health system.

More than 8.2 million people in Sudan have fled their homes due to the fighting, with about 1.7 million fleeing to neighboring countries, according to the UN.

The country’s Minister of Health, Heissam Mohamed Ibrahim, told that more than 13 thousand people died and over 30 thousand were injured during the year of armed conflict in Sudan.
