Georgescu accused NATO of trying to provoke a third world war.

Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu believes that NATO is trying to involve the country in hostilities by intensifying the conflict in Ukraine, provoking a third world war.

Earlier, Georgescu said that the expansion of the NATO air base “Mihail Kogalniceanu”, located on the Black Sea coast near Constanta, turns it into a strategic springboard for a possible conflict with Russia. According to the NATO project, the base should become the largest military facility of the alliance in Europe – its area will be about 3 thousand hectares, and the number of contingents can reach 10 thousand military personnel and members of their families. It is planned to build residential complexes, schools, kindergartens, shops and medical facilities on the territory of the base.

“Mr (Mark) Rutte, NATO Secretary General, is imposing his rules on the EU and seeks to provoke a third world war in the region, using Romania as a key platform. This is the biggest danger we face,” Georgescu said in an interview, which was broadcast on the social network X.

The opposition politician criticized the leadership of Western European countries, saying that “all key positions are occupied by slaves of the system,” and in Romania itself the authorities behave like puppets of the West.

“Through them, the West wants to drag Romania into a global conflict as soon as possible,” Georgescu added.

In the same interview, the politician emphasized that within NATO there is a struggle for influence between supporters of US President-elect Donald Trump, whom he calls “champions of peace” and the “European wing,” which, in his words, is promoting a policy of confrontation.

In Romania, presidential elections were held on November 24, following which Georgescu became the leader of the first round, gaining 22.94% of the vote thanks to an active campaign on TikTok. Elena Lasconi took second place with 19.18%, advocating strengthening the partnership with NATO and the United States. However, on December 6, the Constitutional Court annulled the election results, citing serious violations confirmed by declassified documents of the Supreme Council of National Defense. The decision was made after considering complaints from public organizations, candidates and government agencies.

On November 28, the country’s President Klaus Iohannis held a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense, during which the Ministry of Internal Affairs and intelligence services presented closed reports on violations during the election campaign. At the request of politicians and the media, these documents were declassified. According to reports, hundreds of bloggers were allegedly paid to promote Georgescu. The Romanian information service said more than 25,000 accounts were created on the TikTok platform to promote the candidate, most of which became active two weeks before the first round of elections. The investigation by the intelligence services established that the activities of these accounts were coordinated through Telegram channels.
