The State Department approved the sale of $100 million worth of tank shells to Israel.

The US State Department has approved the possible sale of tank shells and equipment to Israel for $106.5 million, the Pentagon’s Defense Cooperation Agency reports.

“The State Department has approved a potential sale to the Government of Israel of 120mm M830A1 rounds… and related equipment for an estimated $106.5 million,” the statement said.

It is clarified that Tel Aviv itself requested almost 14 thousand of such ammunition.

The day before, Reuters, citing sources, reported that the Joe Biden administration asked Congress to authorize the sale of 45 thousand shells for Israeli Merkava tanks, which will be used in the offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to the publication, this request came due to growing concerns about the use of American weapons in a conflict where thousands of civilians have died.

At the same time, in early December, the Wall Street Journal, citing officials, wrote that the United States had supplied Israel with approximately 15 thousand bunker-busting bombs, as well as 57 thousand artillery shells, since October 7.

The day before, the United States vetoed a UAE draft resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The document also contained a demand to immediately and without preconditions release all hostages, as well as to ensure humanitarian access. Great Britain abstained from voting. The remaining 13 members of the UN Security Council supported the resolution.
