The ruling party of Georgia is preparing to impeach the president.

The ruling Georgian Dream party in Georgia is starting an impeachment procedure against President Salome Zurabishvili because of her visits to EU countries that were not coordinated with the government, Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the political site, said.

“At the political council of the party, we decided to start the procedure for the impeachment of the president,” Kobakhidze said at a briefing.

Earlier, the Georgian government denied Zurabishvili foreign visits to ten states, including Germany, Ukraine, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

The presidential administration has reported that Zurabishvili is starting meetings with European leaders starting Aug. 31 to seek support for Georgia’s EU candidate status, which the country expects to receive in December. Zurabishvili started her European tour from Germany.

Mamuka Mdinaradze, executive secretary of the Georgian Dream, told reporters on Wednesday that Zurabishvili makes foreign visits to European countries without the consent of the government, which is a violation of the constitution. According to him, the government has certain reasons for this. In particular, the last speech of the president in the parliament was regarded as directed “against the European integration of Georgia.”
