The presidents of Israel and Germany called each other over the shooting in Munich.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog had a telephone conversation with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier after the shooting incident near the Israeli Consulate General in Munich. He thanked the German president for the quick response of law enforcement agencies to the actions of the attacker and, together with his interlocutor, condemned this attack.

“I have now spoken with the President of Germany, my dear friend Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Together we expressed our common condemnation and horror at the terrorist attack that took place this morning near the Israeli consulate in Munich. On the day when our brothers and sisters were supposed to honor In memory of our brave athletes killed by terrorists 52 years ago, a hateful terrorist came and tried to kill innocent people again,” Duke wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

I want to thank the German security services for their quick action and express my support to everyone who was attacked. Together we will stand in the face of terror. Together we will win,” the Israeli president added.

The person who fired at the Israeli Consulate General and the Center for the History of National Socialism in the center of Munich was aiming at the police officers on duty. According to her sources, the man drove up to a police post located near the building of the Center for the History of National Socialism (the Israeli Consulate General is located nearby) and opened fire on law enforcement officers with a long-barreled weapon. They wounded him with return fire. Later, the head of the Bavarian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Joachim Herrmann, said that the suspect died from his injuries.

No police officers were injured. There is no information about possible other suspects at this time. The Israeli Foreign Ministry, in turn, reported that the diplomatic mission building was closed at the time of the incident in connection with a ceremony dedicated to the memory of the athletes who died as a result of the terrorist attack at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. None of the consulate employees were injured.

The incident occurred on the anniversary of the terrorist attack at the Munich Summer Olympics, when Palestinian militants infiltrated the Olympic village on September 5, 1972, where they killed two and took nine members of the Israeli team hostage.

The terrorists demanded the release of 234 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons. The German authorities announced their readiness to provide the militants with a plane to fly to Cairo and planned to neutralize them at the airport. However, the operation carried out by the police on the night of September 6 was unsuccessful, all the hostages died, five terrorists were killed, and three were arrested.
