The NATO Secretary General discussed the assassination attempt on Fico with the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reported on the social network X that he discussed with Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak by telephone the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Fico, as well as the “protection of common values.”

“I spoke today with Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak, expressed my solidarity with Prime Minister Robert Fico and the people of Slovakia. An attack on the Prime Minister is an attack on our democracies and societies. We must join forces to support our values,” Stoltenberg wrote.

The assassination attempt on Fico, who has repeatedly spoken out against arms supplies to Ukraine and its membership in NATO, occurred after a government retreat in the town of Gandlova, 190 kilometers northeast of Bratislava. The prime minister was taken by helicopter to the hospital. The Ministry of Internal Affairs informed that Fico’s condition is critical. The shooter was detained on the spot.

As Kalinyak reported on Thursday, the threat to Fico’s health remains serious, his condition has stabilized, but the situation still threatens his life.
