The EU has proposed introducing sanctions against a number of members of the Israeli government.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said online that he intends to propose sanctions against “accomplices of Israeli settlers,” including a number of members of the Israeli government.

“We in the EU condemn the settler attack in Jita (a Palestinian community in the West Bank) aimed at intimidating Palestinian civilians. Day after day, with virtual impunity, Israeli settlers are fomenting violence in the occupied West Bank, jeopardizing any chance of peace. Government “Israel must immediately stop these unacceptable actions. I confirm my intention to propose EU sanctions against supporters of Israeli settlers, including some members of the Israeli government,” Borrell wrote.

Earlier, Israeli settlers attacked the village of Jit in the West Bank, killing at least one resident and injuring many others. Dozens of attackers were reported to have set fire to houses and cars in the village.
