The EC commented on Macron’s words about sending the military to Ukraine.

The EC commented on Macron’s words about sending the military to Ukraine.

The official representative of the foreign policy service of the European Union, Peter Stano, commenting on the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about the possible dispatch of Western troops to Ukraine, said that the method of supporting Kyiv is a sovereign decision of the member countries; there are no such plans at the EU level.

“The method of supporting (Ukraine), especially military, is an independent and sovereign decision of the member countries,” Stano said during the briefing. The broadcast was conducted on the website of the European Commission.

Commenting on statements by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico that a number of NATO and EU countries are considering the possibility of sending their military to Ukraine on the basis of bilateral agreements, the EC representative repeated that this is an independent decision of the member countries, and added that there are no such plans at the EU level.

Earlier, Macron said that the EU agreed to create a “ninth coalition for deep strikes” – supplying Ukraine with medium- and long-range missiles. He also said that France will do everything to prevent Russia “from winning this war.” According to him, the leaders of Western countries have discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, but no consensus has yet been reached. Later, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, following Macron’s statement, also did not rule out sending the military to Ukraine and added that Paris “will not be able to come to terms” with the Russian victory.
