The Belgian authorities have made a discount on the rent for tenants with solar panels on the roofs

In Belgium, they found an unusual way to save on rent – the authorities of the city of Thames in a European country made a discount on bill payments for citizens who rent apartments in houses with solar panels on the roof

We are talking about housing that was built by the municipality using state subsidies and rented out to residents of the country. Most of these households are equipped with their own solar panels.

When the sun shines, social tenants are fully supplied with electricity and even send surplus energy to the national power grid – for this they are given discounts on utility bills. In addition, in this way the country turns out to reduce the harmful impact on the environment.

The authorities, with the help of the European Investment Bank, plan to soon provide up to 50,000 homes with solar panels in the Flanders region. On a scale of the whole of Belgium, more than 150 million euros (more than nine billion rubles) are going to be allocated for these purposes. So, 400 thousand solar panels should appear on the houses of the Belgians. Residential tenants in Thames acknowledged that rooftop personal power stations have helped their families make significant savings on their bills.

Earlier in Switzerland, it was proposed to equip all new buildings with solar panels. The innovation will affect objects, applications for the construction of which will be submitted from January 1, 2024. Thus, the authorities plan to increase the production of solar energy without interfering further with the landscape.
