The Austrian Foreign Ministry spoke in favor of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

The door for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv must remain open, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg told reporters in Brussels.

“I believe that we should always keep this door open, because, after all, sustainable peace can only be achieved at the negotiating table,” the minister said, answering a press question about the possibility of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

He added that, from his point of view, the time for these negotiations “has not yet come“, the decision “should be taken in Kyiv and in Moscow.”

Speaking about future relations with Russia, the minister stressed that “geography and history cannot be changed” and “there can be no abolition of culture in relation to Russia,” but “there can be no silent return to the status quo either.”

“We are talking about war crimes, crimes against humanity, they should be investigated,” Shallenberg said.
