Tajikistan sent about 500 million cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan for irrigation of farmland, which is 40 million cubic meters more than a year earlier, the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation reported on Tuesday.

“Since June 1, Tajikistan has sent 488.6 million cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan through the Dostyk interstate canal (from Kazakh – Friendship). This is 40 million cubic meters more than last year, and 45 million cubic meters more than planned for this year volume,” a message published on the department’s Telegram channel says.

According to the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, whose words are quoted by the press service, Tajikistan, along with other Central Asian states, remains an important partner for Kazakhstan.

“Therefore, we pay great attention to joint work on the issue of water resource management and conservation,” the minister noted.

The press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation recalled that since April 1, Uzbekistan has sent Kazakhstan more than 4 billion cubic meters of water along the Syrdarya River. In addition, at the 33rd meeting of the Shu-Talas Water Commission, an agreement was reached to supply 180 million cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan along the Shu River and 380 million cubic meters of water along the Talas River from Kyrgyzstan.
