NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, whose term of office expires on September 30, 2023, does not intend to once again extend his term of office, Oana Lungescu, the representative of the head of the Alliance said.

“He has no intention of seeking an extension of the mandate,” Lungescu said.


NATO Secretary General has been in office for almost nine years. The last time Stoltenberg’s term was extended in March last year – until the end of September 2023.


At the same time, according to the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, there is an informal agreement among the member countries of the Alliance to extend Stoltenberg’s term of office until the spring of 2024 so that he can chair the summit dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO, which will be held in Washington in April next of the year.
