Poland has postponed the introduction of a buffer zone on the border with Belarus.

The Polish authorities have postponed the introduction of a buffer zone on the border with Belarus, the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration of the Republic Tomasz Siemoniak told reporters.

Earlier it was reported that the buffer zone and the ban on access to the border area on the Belarusian border were to be introduced on June 4.

“We are working on an order from the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration in accordance with what the Prime Minister announced last Wednesday. We do not expect this decision to be made tomorrow,” Siemonyak said.

We want to have a little more time, a few days, for consultations with local authorities, the national park, public organizations,” he added.

After the start of the migration crisis near the borders with Belarus in 2021, Poland has already introduced a buffer zone on the border. This regime was abolished after the parliamentary elections last fall.

Recently, the situation at the border has worsened. On average, about 200 people try to storm the fence every day. Sticks and stones are constantly thrown at Polish border guards. Recently, one of the illegal migrants, trying to cross the Polish-Belarusian border, wounded a Polish soldier with a knife.
