Piles of rubbish have accumulated at the station in Marseille due to a cleaning strike.

Piles of rubbish have piled up at the main Saint-Charles train station in Marseille, France due to a strike by cleaners who stopped work due to non-payment of wages.

“The Saint-Charles station in Marseille is strewn with waste … The reason for the garbage to accumulate on the floor of the railway station was the strike (employees) of the cleaning company,” local media reported.

According to Kamel Jeffel, head of the CAT union, which represents workers in cleaning companies, the employees of Laser Propreté, which services the station in Marseille, have received no or only half their wages. The French national railway company SNCF called on its contractor to return to the contract.

In the spring of 2023, more than 10,000 tons of waste accumulated on the streets of Paris due to a garbage strike against pension reform.
