More than 700 climate protesters detained in The Hague.

More than 700 people were detained during a protest in The Hague against government subsidies for mining, Dutch police said on Sunday.

On Saturday afternoon, hundreds of climate activists in The Hague blocked the major A12 highway in both directions to protest government subsidies for fossil fuels such as oil and gas. The action was organized by the Extinction Rebellion movement.

According to police, 768 activists were detained as a result of the protest.

“Of the 768 detainees, two remain in custody,” police said on their Twitter account.
