More than 40,000 people have been evacuated from flood zones in southwestern China’s Sichuan province, China Central Television reported on Wednesday.

A total of 40,596 people in 60 counties in the province were evacuated from dangerous areas due to heavy rains, according to the TV channel, citing the Department of Natural Resources of Sichuan Province.

Heavy rains in July often lead to flooding in Sichuan.

In 2021, due to floods, more than 720 thousand people in the province were in the disaster zone. Last year, floods caused by heavy rains claimed the lives of at least six people.
